UEFA Champions League 2008/2009 Matchday 4

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

English teams Arsenal and Man United had little to celebrate once again as both teams only managed to get a draw yesterday night. This followed Liverpool's draw at home and Chelsea's humiliating away loss to Roma the night before.

Arsenal 0 - 0 Fenerbahce
Arsenal blew away their opponents on their own turf by blitzing 5 goals pass them with their usual slick passing and movement. This time though, Fenerbahce have learned their lesson and put a stubborn and determined defensive display to put off their more illustrative opponents.

They were also glad by the fact that Van Persie managed to miss two glorious chances, though one of them was saved brilliantly by their goalkeeper, Volkan after the former had turned superbly and released a rasping shot.

Celtic 1 - 1 Manchester United
Man United totally dominated the first leg at Old Trafford with a brace by Dimitar Berbatov and the in-form Wayne Rooney and no reply from the visitors. However Man United lost the last time they traveled to the daunting Celtic Park to a brilliant Nakamura freekick in the last ten minutes of the match.

This time round, the home side only took 13 minutes as Striker Scott MacDonald was left totally alone to execute a delicate lob over Goalkeeper Ben Foster. Celtic then ignorantly decided to cling to this sole goal but as the game went on, and Celtic players got worn out both mentally and physically, Man United eventually turned their overwhelming possession and dominance into a goal as Goalkeeper Boruc punched Ronaldo's shot in the 84th min straight into Gigg's path, who made no mistake heading the ball into an empty net. Berbatov even had a chance to win the game for the Red Devils, but he volleyed the ball agonizingly wide after some neat close control.

Other Results
Elsewhere, Juventus shocked Real Madrid by beating the hosts with a comfortable 2-0 win , courtesy of their maestro captain Del Piero, with a fierce drive in the 17th minute and a stunning free kick in the 67th minute.

Lyon won effortlessly at home over Steaua Bucuresti with a 2-0 win while Fiorentina fought to a 1-1 draw with dying giant Bayern Munich.

AaB 2 - 2 Villarreal
Dynamo Kiev 1 -2 Porto
BATE Borisov 0 - 2 Zenit St Petersburg
